Baseball Tips and Tricks : How To Stop Stepping In The Bucket?

Stepping in the bucket has been a serious problem to young athletes. Most of them brings this baseball batting error to adulthood. There are remedy drills out there however, it would take months of pure training and continuous practice to stop stepping in the bucket. First of all, what causes stepping in the bucket and what may happen in case that you step in the bucket?


  • It causes the front shoulder to fly open making it difficult for eye contact with the baseball.
  • When you're hips open up too early, you'll lose a lot of power in your swing.
  • This is a common issue to baseball players to strike out. It also causes the back head to drop, making the hitter prone to strike outs.
These are just a few errors you may encounter when stepping in the bucket. Stopping yourself from doing so needs tremendous amount of time and effort for your body to memorize the right algorithm. View the image below for a clear representation of this batting error.

A better cure to this is by attaching a rope that is also attached to a heavy object that will prevent the front foot from striding more. You can also try placing a bucket or broom in the back of the front foot so that whenever the hitter felt he has stepped or moved the bucket/broom, he'll know that he has stepped in to the bucket.
